CVREP

COACHELLA VALLEY REPERTORY
March, 2010

Dear Theatre Lover,

March is already upon us and it is hard to believe we were opening our first production just one year ago.  The Board and I are proud that we have been able to accomplish two successful productions so far.

On a personal note, I sometimes wish our process was quicker.  Still, I know that to have a long established professional theatre company here in the desert it will take time, perseverance and support! We will have successes and setbacks but ultimately we will accomplish our goals by making a difference one show at a time.

These goals can be achieved through your involvement. Please consider joining us for one of our Luminary Luncheons or hosting an event at your home to help spread the word of CV REP and help us gain more supporters. This grass roots effort in our small community will make the Coachella Valley Repertory an arts institution that is an integral part of the artistic landscape of the Coachella Valley and one the whole community can be proud to be associated with.

Have a great month!!

Sincerely,
Ron Celona
Artistic Director

LUMINARY LUNCHEON

Our first LUMINARY LUNCHEON was a grand success! All in attendance enjoyed a beautifully presented lunch at the BLU Ember’s private dining room. During dessert Board member Colleen McBride shared CV REP’s mission and vision and introduced Artistic Director Ron Celona who shared what CV REP has done to date and some of the CV REP goals for the future. He then introduced the guest artist Anne Jeffreys and interviewer VJ Hume. Anne was quite charming, looked fabulous and shared stories of her career, childhood and travels.

The raffle prizes donated by the Beauty Basket, Piero’s Acqua Pazza and Mission Hills Senior Living generated $125.00 in donations.

Everyone in attendance had a good experience and several shared that they would see us next month or at future events.

The next CV REP LUMINARY LUNCHEON is set for March 24th at noon. Our Guest Artist will be Broadway and TV Star, Carol Lawrence who earned her widespread stardom quite early with the immortal role of Maria in the Broadway musical “West Side Story”.

What are the CV REP LUMINARIES?

The CV REP Luminaries is a new social/booster group. This group helps light the way to CV REP’s future. With the support of our sponsor, the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa, the monthly events are held at the BLU Ember. Each luncheon includes a Luminary of the Theatre who shares his or her life experience working as an actor.

A portion of the fee pays for guests' meal, refreshments, entertainment while the remainder goes to CV REP. The fee is only $25.00--a bargain for this fine restaurant!

Tickets are sold in advance since the room holds only 50 people. To assure your place at the table, please call the Luminary’s Social Secretary, Audrey Provan at (760) 341-7442

CHILDREN’S OUTREACH PRODUCTION

Although it was our hope to announce our spring Children’s Outreach Production this month, we unfortunately were unable to obtain the Grant that we had applied for to produce this production.

As most of you know, this is a difficult time for the arts and education. Our Board is determined to not let this stand in CV REP’s way and will push forward in obtaining the needed funds to reach out to our community’s schools and children.

FUNDRAISING THERMOMETER

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce a plan of attack for building the budget needed to present a main stage production. Based on the funding we raise within the next six months, we will be able to determine the type of project possible to produce (i.e.: a musical, a play and how many roles would be possible).

To date, CV REP has partnered with other organizations, businesses and individuals to produce the first two productions, which are educationally based.

With your help, we will reach the additional goal of producing Main Stage Productions with an extended run in a high profile venue. As always, it is CV REP’s goal to bring the type of productions seen throughout other southern California cities; like the South Coast REP, San Diego Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, etc. We know this is possible here in the desert with you support!

Please visit our website and be a part of history by making your tax deductible donation today!

Wish List

As you can see, our Wish List has not changed since we still need of the following support. There are numerous ways, large and small, you can help support our growth. If we don’t ask, we don’t receive!

  1. We are still looking for a donated public space to operate our organization out of. At present we have been doing business from a home based office. If we have a public space we can start to staff it with volunteers who are waiting in the wings.
  2. Grant Writer, although Board Members are hard at work writing grants, they can always use the support of other volunteers that have this skill under their belt.
  3. Committee Members, each Board member is steering a committee on different development opportunities. If you would be interested in serving on one of these committees, please contact Board President, Gary Hall at Gary.D.Hall@wellsfargo.com for more information.
