COACHELLA VALLEY REPERTORY
April, 2010

Dear Theatre Lover,

I hope our locals are enjoying the warmer weather as much as I am! It is one of the best reasons the Coachella Valley is a beautiful place to live.  Another is that it is filled with creative people who enjoy the arts in all forms.

Spring is bursting with color and some of the most beautiful gardens are at the site of our Luminary Luncheon, the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa and their BLU Ember Restaurant. So far, we have produced two luncheons and both were sold out events.  Our third luncheon is planned for April 28th at noon and should prove to be a success with Guest Artist, legendary comedian, Shecky Greene.  Join us for one of our luncheons. They are quite lovely, reasonably priced, fun, and a delicious way to share a couple of hours in the afternoon.

As a result of our first luncheon, we are making new friends and one of them is the Mission Hills Senior Living facility. They are hosting a Wine Tasting Celebration in honor of the 40th anniversary of EARTH DAY on April 22nd from 4:30 – 6:30pm. All proceeds will benefit CV REP! It is also well priced at $20, which includes wine, hors-d’oeuvers, sweets and entertainment. Please join us and RSVP to Sheri at 760-770-7737 by April 16th.

I am also pleased and excited to share big news.  CV REP has partnered with the AIDS Assistance Program in Palm Springs on a BIG fundraiser set for October 7th. CV REP will be in charge of the entertainment for the evening event. We will split all costs and proceeds to benefit both organizations. The Board and I feel this is a great step in the right direction to raise the needed funds to produce programs and help us gain followers and supporters like you.  So SAVE THE DATE and I will keep you posted on the details as they evolve.

As you can see, fundraising is at the forefront of CV REP’s calendar of events so that we will be financially able to present outstanding productions for both children and adults next season. Please help us reach our goals by attending our events. Thank you for your continued support!!

Have a great spring!!

Sincerely,
Ron Celona
Artistic Director

LUMINARY LUNCHEON

What are the CV REP LUMINARIES?

The CV REP Luminaries are a new social/booster group. This group helps light the way to CV REP’s future. With the support of our sponsor, the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa, the monthly events are held at the BLU Ember. Each luncheon includes a Luminary of the Theatre who will share his or her life experience working as an actor.

A portion of the fee will pay for your meal, refreshments, entertainment and the remainder will go to CV REP. The fee is only $25.00 -- a bargain for this fine restaurant!

Second LUMINARY LUNCHEON continues to be a success!

All in attendance enjoyed a beautifully presented lunch at BLU Ember’s private dining room. During dessert, the president of the Board, Gary Hall, shared CV REP’s mission and vision and introduced Artistic Director, Ron Celona who shared what CV REP has done to date and some of CV REP goals for the future. He then introduced the guest artist, Carol Lawrence and interviewer, VJ Hume. Carol wowed the guests with engaging stories about her audition process for West Side Story as well as many other back stage tales. She looked beautiful and had everyone in the palm of her hand. Afterwards many of the guests had their photos taken with her and she was pleased to accommodate.

We are grateful for all the raffle prizes donated by the Beauty Basket, Shame on the Moon and Mission Hills Senior Living.

The next CV REP LUMINARY LUNCHEON is set for April 28th at noon. Our Guest Artist, Legendary Comedian, Shecky Greene.

FUNDRAISING TREE

On April 22nd, EARTH DAY, we will launch our Fundraising TREE, a symbol of hope in growing our company to be a California Oak… Hey, it may even grow to be a California Redwood one day!

Based on the funding that we raise within the next six months, we will be able to determine the type of project possible to produce, i.e.: a musical, a play and how many roles would be possible.

With your help, we will be able to reach our goals of producing Main Stage Productions and Children’s Outreach productions this coming fall and winter.

As always, it is CV REP’s goal to produce the type of productions seen throughout other southern California cities, like the South Coast REP, San Diego Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, etc. We know this is possible here in the desert with you support!

WISH LIST

As you could see our Wish List has not changed since we are still in need of the following support.
There are numerous ways, large and small, that you could help support our growth. If we don’t ask, we don’t receive!

  1. Public Space- We are still looking for a donated public space to operate the CV REP office. At present, we have been doing business from a home based office. Public space would allow us to add volunteers who are waiting in the wings to help.
  1. Grant Writer- Although the Board Members are hard at work writing grants, they could use the support of other volunteers that have this skill under their belt.
  • Committee Members- Each Board member is steering a committee on different development opportunities. If you would be interested in serving on one of these committees, please contact Board President, Gary Hall at Gary.D.Hall@wellsfargo.com for more information.
